Antiques in Scotland – dealer list

Whether old furniture, jewellery or porcelain – the treasure hunt for art and curios is great fun, especially in Scotland. Here’s a list of antique dealers.

It’s different from Germany: while antique shops here are often little visited and tend to give off a “only for wealthy people” vibe, many dealers in Scotland come across as far more relaxed. You’ll find everything from the ramshackle place that at first glance looks like it only offers junk, right through to the antiques seller set up in an old church. You can get jewellery, porcelain, art, bric-a-brac, chairs, chests of drawers … in short, almost anything. Because “curiosities” – quirky or unusual items – are simply part of the deal for many antiques shops.

And there’s another difference. While in Germany you often find price tags that can’t be haggled over, in Scotland – depending on the dealer’s mood – you can sometimes ask: “Could you do it for less? How about five pounds?” Though you should always stay VERY polite while doing so.

The list: antique dealers in Scotland

The table below lists a number of antique dealers in Scotland, mostly located in and around Edinburgh or further north. Deeper into the Highlands there are hardly any traders left, as they tend to cluster around population centres. The list is by no means complete yet, since for example Glasgow and Aberdeen are still missing. I’m adding to it bit by bit.
